There will be a lot of homophobes in your life who won’t openly hate you. They’ll instead wait for a reason to hate you that is more socially acceptable in their circle.

not to hijack tbh, but this kind of like ‘secret’ homophobia applies to racism too – people won’t discriminate against you for shit they know they can’t get away with, but the minute they find anything else. not all bigots are stupid enough to give that shit away – the truly insidious ones find ways to discriminate without actually playing into MAGA style discrimination and bigotry

racist white people won’t realize they hate the black coworker because she’s black. they’ll believe they hate her because she is lazy, because she Talks Like That You Know What I Mean, because her hair is messy and dirty.

even when none of those things are true, they’ll believe it. they will look at her and see natural hair and say Aha I knew it she can’t even comb her hair properly. They’ll hear her use AAVE talking to a friend and say How did she get in here she’s so uneducated.

Racism doesn’t usually march into your head with Nazi banners and swinging nooses. it nudges you and says into your ear: See? I told you, they’re all the same.

The banners come later, when you’ve already listened to racism so long that it’s voice sounds exactly like your own.
