Be careful when using essential oils or burning incense around your animals. Some animals have very sensitive respiratory systems and the use of incense can be harmful. The ingestion of essential oils can be fatal so be sure to research the reactions of certain oils and how they may affect various species of animals.
Scented candles, incense, and waxes are especially harmuful to birds. Two of my friend’s parakeets died from the scent of the wax in her wax burner.
And some animals might not be bothered by candles at all. It’s so important to know how these things will affect your animals even though they are seemingly harmless.
