Te avel loki e phuv pe leste… on June 4, 2018, a thirteen year old Romani girl was murdered in Amfissa, Greece. Her killer was a local businessman who, depending on which account is accurate, either got into a fight with some Roma or specifically the girl’s father. Either way, he went back to his house, got his gun, and shot the girl in the head, while also shooting her father. The father is recovering. The killer is in hiding. I have no words this. I hope her family can find peace, but more importantly justice.

“Remember the global media hysteria about the blonde girl Maria ‘discovered living in squalor among the Roma’, and the false racist assumption that she had been “kidnapped by the gypsies”? Now contrast that with the international silence around the murder of a thirteen-year-old Romani girl, shot in the head by a local butcher, who drove at high speed into the Roma camp, armed with a shotgun and bent on committing an act of violence. This silence is yet another signal in an age where racism and prejudice are given full rein, that some lives matter less than others.”

The lack of media coverage of this most recent attack speaks volumes. They only care when the child doesn’t ~look~ like a ~Gypsy~… maj khini sim…

I really hope that this can get more attention because it’s only one incident out of many. The situation is dire for Romani people in Europe.
