Dear Anon!
Your confusion is understandable and honestly, we’re all kind of there at this point because they’ve purposefully made the directive really VAGUE.
I’m going to repeat what I’ve been told by the OTW (Organization of Transformative Works)’s legal department as they have been communicating with the EU WHILE the directive was being written, which seems to be the most reliable source that is on our side in this.
Basically we cannot, by the new directive, as content sharers or uploads be legally held responsible for what we upload. It either goes through new laws that the countries adopt based on this directive after it’s been passed, or the old copyright laws (which allow fair use).
HOWEVER, as far as I can tell what this directive WILL do is block us from viewing content. That means we won’t be able to support creators, or find things to like, or even watch anime (unless it’s on Netflix etc), or read manga. And we’ll be highly surveilled because the filters set in place will go through EVERYTHING we upload and share.
There will be no privacy left on the internet for Europeans!
I hope this makes you feel a little at ease, Anon.
But I also hope it won’t make you feel too much at ease; we need to stop this, and we need to stop it NOW.
So please do join the fight and share these awful news with everyone you can!
