Naming characters is so hard because it requires researching the meaning, origins, and associations of all possible options and making sure you’re not accidentally, like, naming them after a diabolical historical figure or implying that they’re an ethnicity stereotyped with their negative traits.
I tried to come up with a name for a watchmaker and thought “oh, hey, I will just consult a list of Swiss surnames, the Swiss are known for making watches, right?”
I picked like 10 names at random and EACH ONE OF THEM is associated with a real life watch company….
This sounds like something you should lean into and start a watchmaking war.
Oh that’s already a planned subplot. Watchmaking is serious business.
