“Don’t call Trump supporters nazis, it hurts their feelings.”

Yes, this is real (link to tweet). Yes, Tucker Carlson is literally repeating Nazi propaganda that aided the genocide of the Romani during the Holocaust. Yes, I am furious.

(Also, although there is a large population of Romani in Romania, they aren’t indigenous to Romania. They’re a diasporic group originally from northern India.)

Romani and Jewish have been screaming at the top of their lungs for years about neo-fascism in Europe, and Americans were totally aloof.

Then neo-fascism reared its head in America, but Roma and Jews were left out of the conversation in terms of people being impacted, because our oppression was “over.”

Now Tucker Carlson is on live TV using slurs and Nazi propaganda about Romani people, and I’m 90% most people on the left are just going to ignore it.

It’s fucking starting y’all. It’s happening again.

If you’re not Jewish or Roma PLEASE BOOST THIS.

And Carlson was comparatively restrained. Alex Jones, for example, gleefully (and falsely) expanded on the vilifying stereotype: “They’re crapping in the streets, they’re robbing people, they’re stealing.

The Roma are “the largest and most vulnerable minority group in Eastern Europe …
71% or more of Roma households

live in deep poverty.

The Nazis killed about 220,000 of them in the Holocaust.

The supposed “invasion” Fox publicized in July of 2017 was 40 ethnic Roma who had come from Bucharest, Romania, to seek asylum in the United States. In their own words: “We left our country, not because we are poor. We left because of racism
and we’re seeking political asylum.

One example of such racism, from 2012 Hungary:

More than 700 people associated with far-right groups … moved on to a street where they
believed Roma families were living. Gathering outside houses they
chanted ‘Gypsy criminals …We will set your homes on fire … You will burn
inside your houses!’ They threw rocks and paving stones, forcing the
Roma to barricade themselves in their homes. Meanwhile, the police just
stood by watching. …
the perpetrators of the crimes ‘remained virtually without legal consequences.’

Naturally, Fox’s fearmongering story repeated unsubstantiated complaints from around 2% of the residents of
the small town of California, Pennsylvania,

but didn’t bother reporting the actual facts:

Council members, the borough administrator and police Chief Richard Encapera said … there have been no instances of violence or aggression, and the
immigrants involved in minor infractions have been duly cited and paid
their fines.
