pain-three-days-grace:

Just a gentle reminder for tumblr users with anxiety, panic disorders or who get nervous quickly:

– Chain mail, “reblog this or..” posts etc. don’t work. They’re not real. Nothing bad will happen if you don’t forward that mail or reblog that post.

– “If you don’t reblog this, you’re a bad person” is a lie. You’re not a bad person for not clicking a button.

– You are allowed to unfollow blogs that post triggering contents.

– You’re not weak or a crybaby for avoiding things that are triggering. Far from it, you’re taking care of yourself. That’s amazing!

you have not experienced true fear until a poster falls down in the middle of the night

One time I thought a poster had fallen down in the middle of the night, but when I turned on my light, it actually was an opossum that fell through my ceiling into my room. So, that’s actually true fear.

Hey. LIVING COSTS MONEY! How about giving more money to the companies that employ me and MAYBE I MIGHT BE OK

This is such a funny thing to me because in Thai culture, it’s completely normal to live with your parents when you’re an adult. In fact, most people live in their family home until they’re married ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Saaaame in Pakistan dude and being abroad for grad school is really fucking me up I am not built to be even slightly independent 😂

In Western culture (including America!) it was completely normal for people to live with their parents in adulthood–sometimes until they married, sometimes longer.  In America, that changed (for men) in the 1940s and 50s, when it was really really easy for an 18 year old to get a good job that paid more than enough to live a comfortable life on, or to afford college which would then practically guarantee you an even better-paying job.  Women joined the trend of moving out at 18 in the 1960s and 70s.

And now those jobs don’t exist, or are few and far between, and guess what!  People are living with their parents again.  But that 70-year span was just long enough that it fell out of common memory, and now people are seen as “failures” because the economics have changed.

A very great deal of Western culture, ESPECIALLY America, is actually still based on a memory of the 40′s and 50′s as the baseline of normalcy despite them being a total fluke at the time.

World War II and McCarthyism created a massive shift towards rabid patriotism, Christian fundamentalism and the ideal of the “nuclear family” that resembled nothing before it and we’re still recovering from as the majority of our most powerful politicians are old enough that this period of sudden fanaticism is their “nostalgic good old days” and the way they think things are “supposed to be.”

I love when these posts randomly become tiny history lessons, it soothes me

wish i lived in the Mama Mia Extended Universe where almost everyone’s poor but being poor means you have a single bedroom filled with adorable assorted mismatched furniture that still follows a decorative scheme and you have a great view and a french press

and if you stand in one spot long enough a very attractive man will walk by and just fall madly in love with your fun energy and offer you a ride in his pedicab 100 miles up the coast to a wonderful little bakery where the owner will also love your energy and just leave it to you in her will for some reason, along with her rolodex that includes at least three more attractive dating options

oh also you can duet with an invisible ghost right there in public and no ones even going to get on your case about it. utopia

So at one of my jobs I work with this really nice woman named Liz who has an equally nice boyfriend. Thing is, I don’t know the boyfriends name because Liz only addresses him as boytoy. The term boytoy is used so frequently to describe him that not only does she have no problem using that term but neither do any of her coworkers including myself. One day Liz told me that he would be stopping by and when some dude with a beard came through the door I looked at him and said, “Mr.toy I presume.” And he just looks at me and goes; “The very one.”

Fucking eh. Relationship goals.
