Naturally Erupted Elephant Rock in Heimaey in Iceland
I’ve often seen pictures of the elephant’s head, and have been amazed by it every time. But I’d never seen the picture from above, showing the whole body/tail and trunk. It’s incredible from this angle, and am convinced it is a real ancient mega elephant turned to stone by a dark or benevolent force long forgotten.

Italian authorities are to carry out a census of Roma people with a view to deporting those without papers, according to new Interior Minister Matteo Salvini.
Salvini, head of the anti-immigration League party that is the junior party in Italy’s governing coalition, plans to order “a survey of Roma in Italy to find out who, how, how many”, he told a northern Italian TV station on Monday, saying the information would be collected in a “register”.
“Irregular [undocumented] foreigners will be deported via agreements with other countries, but Italian Roma unfortunately you have to keep at home,” he was quoted as saying.
Salvini has a long history of targeting Italy’s Roma and Sinti population, which numbers an estimated 130,000-170,000, around half of whom are believed to be Italian citizens.

Yet another event in a long line of anti Romani racism in Europe that has never gone away.
To quote a friend, “White Americans are freaking out over the return of Nazism; meanwhile, that sh*t never ended for us.” I know there’s so much going on in the States right now, and we should certainly bring awareness to that, but I hope we can also bring awareness to the escalating, continuing anti-Romani violence in Europe that NEVER went away. This is what real “Gypsy life” is. They are trying to commit genocide against us and have been since we left India.

More info on the situation. I do want people to realize, though, that this isn’t so much about “illegal immigrants” as it is specifically Romani people, who are despised throughout Europe even if we are citizens. This has been going on since we left India. Nazism and racism never went away for us. Don’t get me wrong, immigrants – legal or otherwise – are treated terribly in Europe and everywhere else. But the situation for Roma specifically is getting exponentially worse in the past few years and we need to do something about it.
If you are all feeling lost and nauseous about Italian Interior Minister Salvini’s despicable Roma census proposal, please consider donating to/signal boosting the European Roma Rights Centre. They actively pursue legal action against discriminatory policies/human rights abuses within the international courts, as well as carry out advocacy and research.
For all of you asking, here is a wonderful organization that helps Romani people in Europe. I will try and find some other organizations, as well.

like there’s just such a comprehensive failure to understand or empathize with what exactly that means. how many communities were destroyed, how many families were destroyed, how our languages were destroyed because most of the speakers were murdered, how many children grew up in the wake of this trauma, what it’s like to try and parent in the aftermath of a genocide that kills a third of your people (two thirds of all european Jews!), what it’s like to have the spectre of this hung over your head every single day from childhood
There’s this complete disconnect that a lot of non-Jewish gadje have about exactly what the Samudaripen (Holocaust) DID to our two populations. Like, there are entire subgroups that just don’t exist anymore… Seeing these numbers makes my heart hurt.
As an atheist, it‘s very interesting to see how theists still believe in (and worship) their god, after such horrible things happen to them and their community. I thought their god would protect them…?
Okay, first of all, the Holocaust was a racially based genocide. Hitler and the Third Reich weren’t killing Jews because of theological issues. He believed that Jews (along with the Romani people) as a race were inferior and impure. Racial purity was also why other groups of victims were targeting.
Second of all, and more importantly, you are a horrible and disgusting human being. You should be ashamed of yourself.
