Serena Williams caused a sensation with the black catsuit she wore at this year’s French Open tournament. But French tennis officials aren’t as fashion-forward.
From now on, players’ attire apparently will be subject to a dress code — and Williams’ sleek outfit is out.
“I feel like a warrior in it, a warrior princess … from Wakanda, maybe,” she told reporters in May, referring to the movie Black Panther. “I’ve always wanted to be a superhero, and it’s kind of my way of being a superhero.”
So like any good superhero costume, Williams’ black Nike catsuit was functional.
“I’ve had a lot of problems with my blood clots, God I don’t know how many I’ve had in the past 12 months,” she said at the May news conference. “I’ve been wearing pants in general a lot when I play so I can keep the blood circulation going.”
I love this ~innocent and innocuous idea~ that a short skirt is more appropriate for playing high-level sports than a full body suit. You can almost taste the dishonesty… =.=
my professor spent our entire seminar whining about how there’s too many girls in our group and not enough boys. he was like “i’m not saying women can’t be good surgeons but we need more men” no, we don’t. men suck. deal with it.
CRY ALL YOU FUCKING WANT YOUR TEARS DON’T MEAN SHIT TO ME. YOUR TEARS MEAN DICK TO ME JUST SO YOU KNOW
Okay so not to be that person who adds on to a post with their own story but my mom is a doctor and when I was eleven she took me to these all-female seminar led by a woman who was the head of a hospital because my mom is an empowered and independent woman who wanted her daughter to be the same way and so there’s like thirty females surgeons in the room, all sitting around his huge circlular confrenece table and talking about their experiences in becoming surgeons
most of them were like “everyone told me I should become a nurse or a pediatrician” and “people assume that I don’t know what I’m doing” you know, your average sexist bs
one of the women’s last name was starboard (yeah I know great name) and she was talking about how even though now she was one of the most accomplished surgeons at the hospital, the male scrub techs (read: guys who didn’t go to fucking medical school) and some of the male doctors call her starbitch in the OR because they (scrub techs mostly, strangely enough) try to suggest different ways to care for the patient and she always tells them no you didn’t go to med school and I did and so they would go out of their way to get the male doctors to treat the patient differently and then she would have to argue with him to prove what she was doing es right but sometimes the male doctor would come and take over the case anyway and this went on for a while
but then the hospital statistics changed bc this woman was literally being prevented from treating her patients bc the men were interfering and so the administrative head heard about this (she was female) and she was like y’all better stop or y’all better start looking for new jobs and then starboard was allowed to work on her patients and got the scrub techs replaced and all of the sudden, the patients were suddenly doing much better during and after surgery.
when she told this story she was like “people still call me a bitch, and maybe I am because I won’t let them walk all over me, but when you’ve got something to do, when you’ve got a life to save, you have to ignore their bullshit so that you can save someone’s fuckin life. Sexism should never stop you from accomplishing that”
and little eleven-year-old me still remembers that bc I was insecure and awkward and here was this woman who just did what she had to do and ignored all the people trying to stop here and she really was better than all the male doctors (like her patient stats were better) and I thought I should share with you this inspiring woman with the cool last name
let me tell you guys something that ACTUALLY happened in my screenwriting class last week
one of the female writers in our class is writing a feature about this gang of teenage girls who sort of become vigilantes and murder men who harass women (that’s a shitty logline of it but it’s actually fucking awesome and highly stylized and over-exaggerated like tarantino in a good way bc i fucking hate tarantino). ANYWAY their first kill is this guy named taylor. taylor is one of the girl’s boyfriends. it is heavily implied and the writer confirmed that he abuses and rapes her. not explicitly seen, but she has bruises, there are scenes implying it etc.
so. she wrote the part where they kill taylor. and one of my professor’s comments was about how he felt like he didn’t hate taylor enough.
to which me and my female friend were like um what?? we hate him. he fucking raped and abused her. wE HATE HIM. HE IS A HORRIBLE PERSON.
and my prof was like well yeah i hate him but i don’t HATE hate him. and we argued about it. so he took a poll of who hated taylor. ALL of the girls in the class raised their hands. none of the boys did. when he asked who didn’t hate taylor all of the men raised their hands. and me and my friend started laughing because of COURSE they did.
and my prof was like why are you laughing and the writer was like “i think they’re laughing at the gender difference in that answer” and my prof was like “well, from my male perspective, i don’t think i’m being sexist”
WHAT.
first of all did you hear that sentence at ALL do you understand how paradoxical it is?????
second of all, no. just no.
and then my prof went on to say “i feel like we need to see taylor be horrible. like bad solution, he kicks a dog”
evidently a man can abuse and rape a girl and not be hated, but if he kicks a dog then he’s PURE EVIL
I feel like a lot of this bullshit about “well maybe if a woman HAD dated [an incel] he wouldn’t have been so angry and violent” because it’s absolute victim blaming. They really think so little of women that they give credence this falsehood that these shitstains believe about their entitlement to women
Because make no mistake these are angry, violent men. If they weren’t angry and violent about women, they would be angry and violent about something else.
And if a woman HAD dated one of them, they would have likely been angry and violent towards her, and we would ask how she could be so “stupid” as to not recognize he was violent and stayed away
“If only women would date these violent men there wouldn’t be so much violence!” – Society
“Why do women stay in abusive relationships? Geez, if your partner is violent just leave!” – Also Society
There is genuinely no way to win with Society like this.
They don’t see women as people, merely objects handed to men as a reward.
Which is exactly how incels see women.
Incels are 100% a product of our society
And I think it’s unlikely that all these incels never ever dated anyone.
I think it’s more probable that when they did date someone, it didn’t work out — as relationships often do — and it embitters them. Perhaps at some point they quit trying. Then they place the fault onto the women, because that makes the narrative more tolerable to them. (As my ex did/does).
And I think someone else in my feed at some point also pointed out, it’s entirely possible they can get laid or dated. Just not by the specific women they desire. Which, well, is part of life and relationships having. A mature adult accepts this and moves on. (IMHO,ofc). You don’t go making movements out of it and killing people.
