I don’t think White’s problem is “her brain got broken by the Corruption beam” so much as, well…

Have you ever met someone who has a very particular idea of the way things ought to be, to the point where they basically ignore and override anything that counteracts their worldview? And they do this with people who don’t agree with their worldview, particularly people they’re responsible for and have control over, like their children or younger relatives, and they constantly interrupt and steamroll over anything their kids do that indicates they’re an individual outside of that person’s control?

White’s kind of like that. Except she’s omnipotent. And she may or may not have the power to reach inside people’s heads and remove pieces of their minds to make them perfectly obedient. And that’s absolutely terrifying.

That happy welcoming party set off some warning bells. It doesn’t seem like she’s necessarily forgiving “Pink” so much as trying to put her back under her control. She separated Steven from everyone else and then shoved him into a room.

I imagine she’s not going to be so nice when “Pink” refuses to play along, especially if she insists on being called “Steven” or trying to return to Earth. There’s a reason why Blue and Yellow are so afraid of her. They’ve seen this before.

THEORY

White Diamond was formed in a star. That’s why she’s not like the other gems or even the other Diamonds. They were all made on terrestrial planets but White was forged in a star, maybe Homeworld’s. That would also explain why she’s glowing like crazy, she’s literally stellar.

Edit: Further evidence, her cape looks like it has stars in it, with her representing the “brightest star” of them all. Second piece is the way her outfit is designed, on the center of her chest it looks like a star design.

Another edit: Heck, her head is literally a five pointed star

Edit 2.0: Five pointed stars represent “authority” and “excellence”

EVEN MORE EVIDENCE: “ Sophdet, the Egyptian personification of the star Sirius, is always shown with the five-pointed star hieroglyph on her head.

Edit AGAIN: the symbolism of glow, is “enlightenment and understanding”, White seems to have known about Steven arriving, him being Pink Diamond, and potentially that Pink faked her shattering

Wow more edits:

the stars’ association with the heavens has turned them into symbols of the warfare between light, or spirit, and darkness, or material forces.” *cough black lipstick and nail polish and eyeliner but white body but black cloak again” (with a stretch this could explain why she seems a bittt unhinged)

Edit 3.5: This is why White seems star based, calling Steven “starlight” and saying “thank the stars” (stretch)

Edit 3.6: White’s ship is seemingly separated from everything else, kinda symbolizing her being at the center of everything. Like she’s the grandest of them all, also she really stole the spotlight of the episode. Just like a true star.

@atsuyuri-sama  Has their own interesting theory where all the Diamonds were made from stars and if I may add to that. That would explain why White Diamond was called “difficult” because white dwarf stars are pretty dense, they are also incredibly long lived and will live longer than the current age of our Universe and that would add to the theory that White Diamond is the oldest Diamond!

@folkkvangr also made an awesome addition to @atsuyuri-sama ‘s post in which they said  “At a distance of just nine hundred light-years, however, even a dim white dwarf should have been visible. The fact that they still can’t see it suggests to Kaplan that it must be unusually cool—no more than two thousand degrees, as opposed to about six thousand for the sun. “Most white dwarfs are made mostly of carbon and oxygen,” he said, and, at that temperature, given the density of a white dwarf, those elements should have crystallized. Another name for crystallized carbon is “diamond.”

“. Oh my stars, Rebecca please let our new crackpot theories be right.

Here’s the link they used: https://www.newyorker.com/tech/elements/the-biggest-diamond-in-the-known-universe-has-been-found

@anna-no-e also made their own white dwarf theory so check that out! (Thanks for sourcing me at the end btw!)

‘Steven Universe’ Showrunner Says Fans Are ‘Astonishingly On-Point’ About White Diamond

It’s been quite an exciting summer for fans of “Steven Universe.” The theory that Rose Quartz was actually Pink Diamond was confirmed, Ruby and Sapphire got married, Steven got Blue and Yellow Diamond on his side, and Cartoon Network has announced that the series will get a TV movie next year.

But fans seem to be most abuzz about the long-awaited debut of the most powerful and terrifying gem of all: White Diamond. In just a minute of screen time, White has left fans wondering just what kind of gem she is. And showrunner Rebecca Sugar says she’s surprised to find that some of the fan theories have actually figured out what she has in store in future episodes.

“I have seen some readings that are astonishingly on point about White,” Sugar told TheWrap. “And I’m really happy about that because she’s only been on-screen for a few seconds!”

Sugar credits the impact of White Diamond’s debut to her voice actor, Christine Ebersol, who has won two Tony Awards for her performance in the musicals “42nd Street” and “Grey Gardens.” As White Diamond — and her robotic, clearly abused Pearl — Ebersole chilled audiences with her condescending speech to Steven about Pink Diamond’s “latest little game” and asking him if he “got everything out of your system.”

While Sugar  didn’t want to spoil what lies ahead for Steven and the Crystal Gems, she did suggest that some fans’ early impression of White as a cold ruler with a lack of empathy for the Gems who serve her have been quite correct, and hints that Steven’s compassionate approach towards his foes will be tested harder than ever before.

“Let’s put it this way: On a show where problems are solved by communicating your feelings, the ultimate unsolvable problem would be related to that,” she said before abruptly exclaiming “Ah, I’ve said too much!”

!!!!!!!!

Wow! Straight from the woman’s mouth!

White Diamond in the Diamond Authority Historical AU

this AU doesn’t have an official story, but secretly she’s the undead empress of a shattered Byzantium, immeasurably powerful and death-defying. Rumour has it she is old enough to remember the fall of Rome.
