Right now the idea of what a ‘protest’ is, is so skewed. Just interfering with the optics of another party is a ‘protest’ even if it’s not an explicit attempt to platform oneself or platform someone else. Just being present at a political event wearing a contrary button is a ‘protest’ when you have the full right to do that wherever you want. For some people just existing when other people have galvanized public opinion about their existence is a constant involuntary ‘protest.’

Passive noncompliance (and the freedom to be) and protest are not the same thing but in the USA right now they are quickly drifting together if they haven’t already been involuntarily fused together.
