one of the v. important things the movies missed about ron is just like, how down to fight he was at all times. like not even duel just he was always ready to physically beat the shit out of people who insulted his family or friends and WOULD if no one stopped him.
there are so many points in the books where its just casually dropped in ‘and so Harry and/or Hermione had to physically restrain Ron’ usually from Malfoy but if Harry or Hermione weren’t paying attention it became ‘and so Ron punched Malfoy in the face’.
Like, Ron cursing Malfoy for calling Hermione Mudblood wasnt just a one off thing like every time he did that in the future when Ron was there it was like ‘ron had to be stopped from ending Malfoy’s life’ just thrown in there. Same for any other severe insults.
My absolute favorite instance of this is in the first book when they’re just watching a Quidditch game and Malfoy just starts bothering Ron and Hermione during it and is finally like ‘man its pretty funny how the Gryffindor quidditch team is recruited based on pity like y’know Potter has no parents, Weasley’s brothers have no money they should include Longbottom for having no brains” and Ron just flings himself at Malfoy and starts punching him and rolling around under the bleachers and Neville is like “uh shit i guess i better fight CRABBE AND GOYLE BOTH AT ONCE so they don’t go after him” (very underrated moment of courage from Neville he knew he had no chance but he just went for it honestly almost more impressive than confronting Voldemort in book 7)
and they’re just fighting for like twenty minutes and Hermione doesn’t even notice because she was so focused on tuning Malfoy out and watching the game and when its over she looks around like “where’d ron go” and then later its mentioned “Harry sees Ron and his face is covered in blood and he’s like “GOOD JOB WINNING THE GAME HARRY I GAVE MALFOY A BLACK EYE SO WE BOTH DID GREAT THINGS TONIGHT oh btw i have detention for a week and neville’s unconcious but they say he’ll be fine”.
Do you ever think about the fact that the US has created and legitimized a system of institutionalized inequality by funding schools through property taxes? That basically a child’s education is only as good as the value of the property in their neighborhood. Funny how education is so often viewed as an equalizing factor when there is nothing equal about it.

I remember learning this for the first time as an adult. I had grown up thinking education was the great playing field leveler. So I was so furious to find out how very much it wasn’t anything of the kind.
This is a big part of why you’ll often see rich white people fussing about school district lines, because they hate the idea that their money is going towards the education of poor children.

used to think the idea of aliens having human zoos was horrifying but
honestly if a bunch of aliens want to watch me sit and watch Netflix all
day in a cozy little environment where I don’t have to pay for rent or
food and they have human-specialist doctors on hand as needed, IDK,
like. I’d be all right with it.

This isn’t something that gets talked about a lot, and I have no idea how far the problem extends geographically, but if you care about poor people, if you care about sex workers, if you care about activists, if you care about privacy,
you should consider resisting the transition from cash to card-only payments that is happening in shops in some bigger cities. Including shops where only one register in a long row still accepts cash payments so anyone paying with cash needs to wait in line and sticks out.
Cash is how poor people help keep each other alive without immediately worrying about their benefit cuts, cash is what people get when they do a bit of work or sell some old stuff to feed their kids that week. Cash is how most sex workers get paid. A lot of people need to be able to make cash payments to feed their kids, pay their rent and basically to live.
Cash is also what activists use whenever they need protest supplies and don’t want their full name and address attached to the protest. Cash is how we buy any item we want to keep out of our digital footprint. But whether you’re buying a megaphone or a dildo, you can’t do so privately if you can’t spend cash.
Banks are eager to work towards a post-cash economy because it makes our spending habits so much easier to track. States want the same because it makes people so much easier to track and control. We should not want a
post-cash economy

there are these things called survivorship curves and there are three types Type I (shown in red) Type II (blue) and Type III (green) They’re created by looking at birth and death rates of a given species and the curve shows at what point in time an organism of a specific species will die. For example, humans have a fairly low infant mortality and if you make it to around age 16 you’ll probably survive until you’re around 75 unless there’s an accident or you have some undetected disease that would cause you to die early. Type III are plants, fish, and other marine animals that have a very low chance of survival at birth but if they make it past infancy they will likely live to their life expectancy. Type II are birds, small lizards and mammals and they really just die randomly.

Thor: Look, I usually do but I have an axe now and Disney wants to make billions of dollars so things need to stay PG-13 and while the Motion Picture Association of America’s standards that inform their decisions on ratings are mysterious and ridiculous to navigate, I feel pretty confident that they don’t want me to go for your head with an axe if we are to remain at a PG-13 rating. I may be able to cut off your head with this axe if the camera cuts away at a precise moment before impact and your blood is a cartoonish shade of slime green, or if your body just disintegrated into confetti upon impact and it was partnered with a fart sound effect, but we don’t have time to negotiate those changes right now and frankly I think they would not fit with the overall feel of this moment.
